Job Description

A Structural Inspector is responsible for evaluating the structural integrity and safety of buildings and infrastructure. This role requires a meticulous and analytical eye to identify potential hazards, defects, and adherence to construction regulations and codes. As a Structural Inspector, you'll play a crucial part in ensuring public safety by conducting thorough inspections and providing detailed reports on your findings. You'll need to be knowledgeable about construction methods and materials, as well as maintain up-to-date understanding of local and national building standards. Effective communication is also key, as you'll often be required to liaise with contractors, architects, and engineers to address any issues that arise during inspections.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed inspections of building structures to evaluate their integrity and safety.
  • Ensure all structures comply with local, state, and federal construction codes.
  • Identify any potential safety hazards or structural defects during inspections.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing the findings from inspections to stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations for repairs or modifications to improve structure safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and other building professionals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction standards and industry developments.
  • Use specialized inspection tools and equipment to assess structural conditions.
  • Review and interpret architectural and engineering plans accurately during inspections.
  • Approve building projects that meet all necessary structural criteria and codes.
  • Educate building owners and contractors on best practices for maintaining structures.
  • Attend ongoing training sessions to keep skills and certifications current.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, or related field preferred.
  • Several years of proven experience in structural inspection or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and national building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to detect subtle issues in structures.
  • Proficient with inspection tools and software for documenting inspection findings.
  • Effective communication skills to convey findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and review complex architectural and engineering documents.
  • Professional certification as a Structural Inspector is highly desirable.
