Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory Therapists are healthcare professionals who specialize in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work under the direction of physicians and are responsible for assessing patients' conditions, providing respiratory treatments, and monitoring their progress. Respiratory Therapists also educate patients and their families about respiratory disorders and management techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assessing patients' respiratory conditions and collecting relevant medical history.
• Administering various respiratory treatments, such as aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, and chest percussion.
• Operating and monitoring respiratory equipment, including ventilators.
• Conducting diagnostic tests to evaluate lung function, such as pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas analyses.
• Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
• Educating patients and their families on respiratory disorders, treatment procedures, and self-care techniques.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
• Responding to emergency situations and providing immediate respiratory support.

• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
• Valid state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Good knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
