Job Description

The Registered Nurse III (Ophthalmology) is a crucial role within the healthcare team, specializing in the assessment, planning, and delivery of nursing care to patients with ophthalmic conditions. This position requires an advanced level of clinical expertise, allowing the nurse to perform in-depth ophthalmic assessments and interventions. As a Registered Nurse III in this specialty, you will collaborate with ophthalmologists to provide optimal patient care, assist in surgical procedures, and educate patients and families about their eye health. This role demands a compassionate nurse with excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to staying updated with the latest practices in ophthalmology nursing.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with ophthalmological conditions or complaints.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists to create and implement patient care plans effectively.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to ophthalmology protocols and procedures.
  • Assist in eye surgeries and ensure the surgical environment is sterile and safe.
  • Educate patients and their families about eye health, surgeries, and postoperative care.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, Amsler grid, and intraocular pressure measurements.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting care and any changes in condition.
  • Ensure all equipment is in working order and maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and care strategies.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments and best practices in ophthalmology nursing care.
  • Train and mentor junior nursing staff and students in ophthalmology practices and procedures.
  • Promote an environment that supports quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current RN license to practice.
  • Minimum of three years of nursing experience, with a focus on ophthalmology preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Registered Nurse (CRN) certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic conditions, treatments, and surgical procedures essential.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills are required.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and ophthalmic examination equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
