Job Description

As a Registered Nurse specializing in the Operation Theatre, you will be part of a dynamic team focused on delivering top-notch perioperative care. Your role is pivotal in preparing patients for surgery, assisting during procedures, and ensuring a safe and sterile environment within the theatre. You'll work alongside surgeons, anesthetists, and surgical technicians to facilitate effective and safe surgical experiences. This role requires expertise in surgical procedures, patient care, and knowledge of the latest medical equipment. An essential component of this job is maintaining a calm demeanor and quick decision-making skills during high-pressure, time-sensitive operations to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room and ensure all equipment and instruments are sterile and functional.
  • Assist surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining sterile field.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and ensure proper anesthetic application during surgeries.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by attending physicians or surgeons.
  • Maintain accurate patient records including surgical notes and medication administered.
  • Provide post-operative care and support for patients during recovery phase.
  • Educate patients and families about surgical procedures and post-operative care needs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with healthcare regulations and infection prevention protocols.
  • Collaborate with surgical team to improve procedure efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Train and mentor junior nursing staff and student nurses in surgical room protocols.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement programs within the surgical department.
  • Coordinate with inventory staff to maintain adequacy of surgical supplies and instruments.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the designated state.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school preferred.
  • Previous experience in operation theatre nursing or related surgical department required.
  • Excellent knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and aseptic techniques.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with surgical and medical staff.
  • Ability to remain composed and perform efficiently under high-pressure situations.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) mandatory.
