Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in the construction and engineering sectors, tasked with managing and overseeing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects. This includes initial estimates, detailed cost reports, and post-construction analysis. The primary goal is to minimize expenses and optimize value for money while ensuring projects meet all legal and quality requirements. Quantity Surveyors work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to achieve cost-effective solutions. They are adept at understanding contracts, negotiating with stakeholders, and providing strategic advice on project finances. Their expertise ensures efficient project execution while maintaining budgetary constraints.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage preliminary cost estimates for construction projects.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents for cost efficiency.
  • Monitor progress and measure work done as part of cost management.
  • Ensure procurement strategies align with project objectives and budgets.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues to avoid potential financial losses.
  • Conduct cost benefit analysis and provide insights to improve performance.
  • Negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure best value.
  • Provide financial and contractual advice to project management teams.
  • Track changes to the design and adjust budget projections accordingly.
  • Prepare detailed progress reports and update forecasts as projects evolve.
  • Evaluate and approve payment applications submitted by contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar field.
  • Professional accreditation with RICS or relevant body is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in cost management for construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Proficient in using cost management software and financial modeling tools.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • A strong ability to manage multiple projects and tasks effectively.
