Job Description

A Quantity Estimator plays a pivotal role in the construction and engineering sectors. This professional is tasked with analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other construction documents to determine labor, material, and time requirements for a project. The Quantity Estimator is crucial for ensuring that a project remains within budget and on schedule by accurately estimating the resources required. An expert in mathematical calculations and data analysis, the Quantity Estimator must possess a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with architects, contractors, and stakeholders. Additionally, they are responsible for preparing cost estimates and delivering insightful reports that aid in proper decision-making.


Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze construction documents to create accurate cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to discuss project specifications.
  • Conduct research to understand current market trends and pricing strategies.
  • Prepare detailed reports and proposals for the project budget and expenses.
  • Assess and evaluate project scope, timelines, and required materials and labor.
  • Maintain a database of construction costs to facilitate future estimates.
  • Utilize software tools to perform complex cost calculations and analysis.
  • Communicate with suppliers and vendors to obtain material cost estimates.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust estimates to reflect actual costs encountered.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and government regulations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to manage and reduce project risks effectively.
  • Review completed projects to identify areas for cost improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Estimator or in a similar role within construction.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in estimating and costing tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and specialized software.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry best practices.
