Job Description

A Process Safety Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that industrial processes operate safely and efficiently. This role involves analyzing and mitigating potential hazards associated with chemical, physical, and biological substances used in manufacturing and industrial processes. The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for developing strategies that prevent accidents and incidents, protecting both employees and the environment. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain safety systems and procedures meeting regulatory compliance standards. This position demands a deep understanding of engineering principles, risk analysis, as well as federal and local safety regulations. The ideal candidate should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a team to address complex safety challenges within dynamic industrial operations.


Responsibilities

  • Perform risk assessments and propose solutions to potential safety hazards in processes.
  • Design and implement safety protocols and procedures for manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to integrate safety systems into process designs.
  • Provide training for staff on process safety management and emergency response procedures.
  • Develop and review safety documentation such as HAZOP and PHA reports.
  • Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve safety management systems and procedures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to foster a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and technological advancements in process safety engineering.
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments for new projects and installations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in process safety or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to conduct detailed safety analyses and risk assessments.
  • Experience with hazardous operations, such as HAZOP and other safety methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills for delivering safety training sessions and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
