Job Description

A Marine Electrician plays a critical role in ensuring the electrical systems aboard marine vessels are functioning correctly and efficiently. This position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems on ships and boats, which can include anything from navigation lights to power distribution systems. Marine Electricians must have an in-depth understanding of marine electrical principles and be proficient with the technical aspects of the work, often operating in cramped or challenging environments aboard vessels of varying sizes. The role demands excellent diagnostic skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety standards, as well as compliance with maritime regulations. Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain electrical systems on a wide range of marine vessels.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure all electrical systems are operational.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair or replace electrical components, wiring, and equipment as necessary.
  • Collaborate with ship engineers to ensure electrical integrity and safety.
  • Interpret technical blueprints and schematics to accurately implement wiring plans.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and electrical safety standards.
  • Maintain records of all electrical work performed on vessels for future reference.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in marine electrical systems and technology.
  • Conduct inspections and certifications in line with company and industry guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior electricians and other staff when necessary.
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues to minimize downtime and hazards.

Requirements

  • An associate degree or certification in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience working as a Marine Electrician or similar role on vessels.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine electrical systems and standards is essential.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment used in electrical work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure efficiently.
  • Familiarity with relevant maritime electrical codes and compliance regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse crew.
  • Ability to interpret and implement electrical schematics and blueprints accurately.
  • Physical ability to perform duties in confined spaces and at heights if required.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Must be prepared to travel extensively and potentially work on long-term assignments.
