Job Description

A Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in the efficient functioning of a kitchen. This position requires assisting chefs and other kitchen staff in food preparation, ensuring the kitchen is organized and adequately stocked, and maintaining a clean work environment. The Kitchen Helper is responsible for handling inventory, restocking materials, and cleaning equipment. This role is crucial for the smooth and efficient operation of a kitchen, especially during busy periods. Kitchen Helpers must be able to work quickly and efficiently, all while following food safety practices. They support all kitchen operations, allowing chefs and cooks to focus on creating delightful dishes for customers.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and utensils are stored properly after use.
  • Check and replenish kitchen supplies, stock, and ingredients as needed.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain food safety standards.
  • Assist in unloading and storing deliveries of food and supplies promptly.
  • Prepare simple dishes under the supervision of chefs or cooks, when needed.
  • Wash and sanitize pots, pans, dishes, and other kitchen utensils regularly.
  • Operate kitchen machinery such as dishwashers and mixers safely and efficiently.
  • Report any kitchen equipment malfunctions or needs for repair promptly.
  • Help manage kitchen waste, ensuring proper disposal and recycling where possible.
  • Assist in the setup and cleaning of kitchen areas before and after events.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
  • Excellent communication skills to follow instructions and work in a team.
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
  • Flexibility to work during weekends, evenings, and holiday shifts as required.
