Job Description

The Data Center Senior Engineer - Structural plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the integrity of physical infrastructures for data centers. This specialized position focuses on ensuring that data centers are equipped to handle the structural demands needed to support sophisticated hardware systems and high-capacity workloads. The role requires a keen understanding of civil and structural engineering concepts, as well as expertise in data center-specific requirements, such as cooling, redundancy, and scalability. The ideal candidate is adept at leading projects, managing teams, and ensuring that all structural designs meet both operational needs and regulatory compliance. This position serves as a bridge between the architectural design and the operational needs of the data center, assuring that the physical space is optimized for efficiency and security.


Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee the structural layout for new data center facilities and expansions.
  • Conduct structural analysis to ensure that designs meet safety and performance standards.
  • Coordinate with architects and other engineers to integrate structural systems with building designs.
  • Lead the assessment of existing data centers to optimize structural integrity and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental regulations and industry standards for engineering and safety.
  • Oversee construction projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to design specifications.
  • Develop structural engineering reports and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and implement innovative approaches to sustainable and efficient structural engineering.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to procure structural materials and services.
  • Provide input into the long-term strategic planning of data center expansions and upgrades.
  • Supervise junior structural engineers and provide mentorship to enhance team capabilities.
  • Manage the budget for structural engineering projects to align with company financial strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in structural engineering or a similar role.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred; commitment to obtaining if not already licensed.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and data center building codes.
  • Proven experience with managing large-scale construction and engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and project management tools is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
