Chief Engineer - Vessel Operations

The Chief Engineer - Vessel Operations plays a pivotal role in overseeing the engineering function of maritime vessels and ensuring their efficient and safe technical operations. This position is critical to managing the engineering team, supervising technical maintenance and repairs, and applying the best engineering practices to enhance vessel performance. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the overall management of the engineering department, including planning, coordinating, and executing maintenance activities and operational tasks. Ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and industry standards forms a key aspect of this role. In addition, the Chief Engineer will implement and monitor the safety and environmental policies on board, working closely with the vessel's Master and other senior officers to guarantee the utmost reliability and safety of vessel operations. This dynamic role demands strong leadership qualities, technical expertise, and excellent problem-solving skills to address engineering challenges effectively.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily engineering operations and maintenance activities of the vessel.
• Ensure compliance with all maritime safety regulations and standards on board.
• Manage the engineering team, evaluating their performance efficiently.
• Plan and execute effective maintenance schedules to optimize vessel performance.
• Coordinate necessary repairs to mitigate any potential operational disruptions.
• Ensure timely procurement and management of spare parts and supplies.
• Monitor fuel and oil consumption to enhance operational efficiency.
• Implement environmental policies to minimize the vessel's ecological impact.
• Conduct regular inspections to verify the condition of engineering equipment.

• Maintain technical records and prepare reports on maintenance activities.
• Liaise with the Master and shore management regarding technical operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a senior engineer on vessels.
• Comprehensive knowledge of maritime engineering systems and practices.
• Strong leadership and team management skills are essential.
• Familiarity with international and national maritime regulations and codes.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills are necessary.
