The UAE Buildings Market leader is a highly influential role with responsibility for driving sustainable Buildings sector growth across the UAE market, developing and sustaining deeper relationships with our clients, allowing us to deliver truly excellent work in response to their individual needs.

The role will focus on developing existing and new opportunities with an emphasis on sports venues, hospitality and major infrastructure sub-markets.

As well as being a technical leader in the field you will demonstrate strong strategic and commercial acumen, with a focus on delivery of excellence and an ability to develop high profile relationships.

You will have significant experience in planning, design and development of discipline services, covering the full spectrum project types. You will be accountable for delivering the Middle East (Unit) Market Strategy in the Territory and shall engage with and support the Unit Market leaders and wider Unit/Territory teams in order to provide leadership, direction and mentoring to our people.

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

  • To build and leverage senior level networks with clients, partners and competitors
  • To facilitate the use of the Market Strategy to drive business plans
  • Working with the Unit Market Leade to prioritise investment within the territory, including acquisitions, staff bulk hires, market entries and exits etc. at the strategic level
  • To support optimal deployment of MMs expertise in bidding and delivering work, particularly in consideration of significant pursuits.
  • To identify at the strategic level when different operating models are needed for specialty and scale projects, and driving use of Global Delivery Services (GDS)
  • Providing oversite on project to build and leverage senior level networks with clients, partners and competitors
  • To facilitate the use of the Unit Strategy to drive business plans
  • To identify and recruit strategic hires and ensure optimal deployment
  • To drive knowledge sharing, innovation and thought leadership
  • To drive market-based practice activities across the territory
  • To promote alignment and collaboration both within and across sectors
  • Allocate growth aims for target and existing key client accounts
  • Identification of new client, product, service and proposition opportunities, and the development of differentiated and commercially viable service offerings that enable growth
  • Manage and support key strategic pursuits & bids by contributing insights and directing the engagement of the most senior client and management.
  • Promote improvement in profitability and reduction of working capital by sharing best practices
  • To facilitate comprehensive resource planning within the territory based on strong knowledge of contracted work and prospect pipelines
  • Set priorities (within authority limits) for pursuits, and strategies for capture planning and bidding
  • MM Ethical standard are maintained through all business development and market activities
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the market, help capture new opportunities, direct the bid process liaising with development teams and relevant location DGM’s to ensure we produce powerful, attractive, compliant and competitive proposals
  • Demonstrate technical leadership in the discipline and a focal point for internal & external stakeholders to liaise with.
  • Responsible for engaging with and where appropriate supporting the development of a team in the Global Delivery Centre.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of HSE, BMS, STEP and quality processes and procedures are always followed and adhered to

Winning Work

  • Support Unit Market Leader in the development and implementation of the Market Strategy
  • Support Account Leaders to grow and nurture external relationships with key clients.
  • Support Project Principals and Managers to successfully win work and deliver projects.
  • Effective monitoring of Business Development activities, proposal spends, Win / Capture rates.

Project Management & commercial leadership

  • Ensure that we capture high quality projects that can bring commercial success to our business
  • Escalate emerging risks / opportunities on projects.

Building the team

  • Accountable for providing leadership, direction and mentoring to our people.
  • Support Practice Leaders in responding to Market needs and clients challenges implementing best practice / training plans, which help the business become more efficient and innovative.
  • Development of a strong team high performing team, with strategic recruitment and succession plans.

Key Meetings

  • Regular meetings with unit Market Leader, Account Leaders and Talent Acquisition Manager.
  • Quarterly meetings to feedback progress on delivery of the Unit Market Strategy in the Territory.

Candidate specifications

  • Demonstrable management experience within a consulting engineering practice
  • Significant project delivery experience as Project Director or Senior Project Manager, including commercial, financial and technical control
  • Extensive experience in the planning, design and construction of Buildings projects.
  • A track record in client-facing, business development and successful bidding and a track record of project delivery
  • Motivational and management skills and an interest in mentoring and developing senior and intermediate staff
  • Proven track record in growing and developing teams
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills at an Executive level
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
  • Previous experience in managing and delivering technical excellence into significant projects, understanding and managing budgets, resources and a strong commercial acumen
  • Middle East experience is required
  • Proven track record of forging and maintaining excellent client relationships in the UAEmarket.
