Job Description

The role of a Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department is vital in delivering prompt and effective nursing care to patients who are experiencing acute health issues or crises. In this fast-paced environment, the Emergency Staff Nurse must have the ability to make critical decisions quickly and competently. You will be working alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, where you will triage, assess, and treat a variety of patient cases ranging from minor injuries to severe, life-threatening conditions. Your skills in assessment, technical procedures, and compassionate patient care will be fundamental in ensuring optimal patient outcomes during their stay in the emergency setting. As a Staff Nurse in Emergency, you will have opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge and skills, as well as contribute to process improvements and enhance patient care practices.


Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate and efficient care to emergency department patients during peak and lull periods.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately under physician directives and hospital protocols.
  • Quickly assess patient conditions and prioritize treatment based on severity and necessity.
  • Document patient treatment progress and responses accurately within medical records systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on emergency care practices and newly evolving health issues and treatments.
  • Operate emergency medical equipment and perform standard procedures, such as EKGs or IV insertions.
  • Communicate effectively with doctors, families, and patients to ensure understanding of procedures and care plans.
  • Participate in emergency response drills to enhance team readiness and improve reaction time.
  • Collate and report patient information crucial to diagnosis and treatment during physician rounds.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing situations with professionalism and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment conducive for emergency treatments.
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities to maintain competency in emergency nursing.

Requirements

  • Active registered nursing license to practice.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, or an equivalent level of study completed.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience, ideally within an emergency setting.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Strong critical thinking abilities and the capacity to handle high-stress environments efficiently.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure effective interaction with team members and patients.
