Job Description

As a Quantity Surveyor in the civil engineering sector, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing all costs related to civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Your main goal is to minimize the costs of projects and enhance value for money while ensuring that the project meets all legal and quality standards. You will need a good working knowledge of commercial management, as well as the ability to get along with a range of different people. You will be responsible for all aspects of contract management, negotiation and communication with clients and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will showcase excellent numerical skills, strong attention to detail, and robust analytical capabilities.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work.
  • Assist in establishing a client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Perform risk and value management and cost control during projects.
  • Advise on procurement strategy and prepare and analyze costings for tenders.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors and manage their payments and variations.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and explore various options in disputes.
  • Analyze outcomes and prepare detailed progress reports regularly for stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective communication with all parties involved in the contract.
  • Ensure that work complies with legal and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate completed work and arrange payments and final accounts.
  • Maintain awareness of different building contracts in current use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in quantity surveying in civil projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and principles in civil engineering.
  • Excellent numerical and IT skills, particularly in using Excel and cost estimation software.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and budgets.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills with a range of stakeholders.
