Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a pivotal role in the construction industry, ensuring that building projects are profitable and adhering to financial targets. These professionals are responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial sides of construction projects, helping to minimize costs while enhancing value throughout the lifecycle of a project. Quantity Surveyors engage in the early planning stages and remain involved right through to completion, dealing with everything from estimation and cost planning to procurement and tendering, contract administration, and project closeout. Their objective is to keep projects on budget, ensuring that all standards and quality expectations are met within set timelines. A keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information are crucial for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial reports properly.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis to identify potential budgetary concerns or opportunities.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate cost estimation.
  • Provide detailed documentation of all contractual and financial project aspects.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure cost-effective service agreements.
  • Oversee the financial management of projects, examining purchase orders and invoices carefully.
  • Conduct risk, value management, and cost control activities throughout projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards in all activities.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all changes affecting costs and manage variations neatly.
  • Advise clients and stakeholders on contractual claims and variances directly.
  • Generate and present comprehensive financial statements to project management teams.
  • Liaise closely with clients to meet their expectations within budget and timeline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry is preferable.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, contracts, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in cost estimating and financial forecasting.
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management software and standard office applications is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently under pressure.
