Job Description

The Kitchen Helper is an integral part of the culinary team, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen. This position supports chefs and other kitchen staff by maintaining cleanliness, organizing kitchen spaces, and assisting in basic food preparation tasks. A Kitchen Helper must be detail-oriented, able to follow instructions efficiently, and have a strong commitment to maintaining health and safety standards. Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, the Kitchen Helper plays a crucial role in prepping ingredients, cleaning workstations, and ensuring all equipment is ready for service. Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing ingredients including washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables and fruits.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen by washing dishes, pots, and utensils regularly.
  • Ensure kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas are clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Assist chefs with basic cooking tasks as directed by the kitchen supervisor.
  • Organize and manage pantry and storage areas efficiently and systematically.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, operational, and stored correctly.
  • Help with the unloading and proper storage of deliveries and supplies.
  • Dispose of waste and recycling materials in an environmentally-responsible manner.
  • Monitor inventory levels and inform chefs of any shortages in supplies.
  • Follow and uphold all health and safety regulations and standards consistently.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of kitchen workstations for meal services.
  • Support the culinary team with any other tasks required during busy service periods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service role is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation standards is essential.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • A passion for cooking and a desire to learn about the culinary arts.
