Job Description

Job Purpose

  • Perform a variety of process engineering duties. Conduct studies at the Site level and prepare the necessary reports. Troubleshoot, test, and participate in HAZOP, SIL and HAZID studies to ensure a smooth running of the Plant’s operations.
  • Develop tools to monitor the Plant’s process and apply computer simulation models and other advanced techniques to achieve the optimum Plant’s performance.

Key Accountabilities

Process Engineering

  • Study and analyze the relevant reports which include, but not limited to, laboratory test reports, standard log sheets, and other daily operating activity reports to monitor the process engineering activities’ status. Highlight abnormalities and suggest corrective actions.
  • Collect the monthly Plant’s production and operating data to evaluate the units’ efficiencies with regard to chemicals and energy consumption. Prepare a detailed report to facilitate decision making.
  • Study the required modifications of technical nature in order to meet variations in production plans and/or a varying feedstock.
  • Organize performance test runs for the analysis of the unit’s performance and establish optimum operating parameters to identify process bottlenecks for increasing the throughput.
  • Participate in HAZOP, SIL and HAZID studies pertaining to proposed modifications.
  • Develop tools for the Plants process monitoring and yield prediction. Apply computer simulation models and other advanced techniques to achieve optimum Plant’s performance.
  • Participate in root cause analysis studies and incident investigations; and prepare the necessary reports to enable corrective actions and the preparation/implementation of mitigation plans.
  • Participate in risk assessments for the proposed modifications.
  • Provide technical services and assistance to other areas such as Instrumentation, Maintenance, and Inspection as required.
  • Provide process engineering support for the Plant’s Alarm Management System (AMS), Alarm Rationalization meetings and Master Alarm Database update projects.
  • Provide process engineering support for the implementation, monitoring, revamping, and effective utilization of Advanced Process Control (APC).
  • Provide process engineering support for the Plant’s Control Loop Performance Monitoring (CLPM) System and for the effective performance and utilization of the Plant’s DCS Controllers.
  • Provide process engineering support for the Plant’s Real Time Optimization (RTO) for the effective design, engineering, implementation, maintenance support and effective utilization of high-end softwares to ensure the business profitability.
  • Provide process engineering support for automating, monitoring, and reporting the process safety KPIs.
  • Provide process engineering support to on-going projects from the conceptualization until the implementation phase.
  • Review and provide comments and feedback on process engineering documents, drawings and P&IDS to ensure the correctness of the drawings and their conformity with the set standards.
  • Conduct feasibility and optimization studies, at the Site level, to facilitate decision making in applying cost-efficient approaches.
  • Monitor and analyse the energy performance, at the unit level, and initiate actions for improvement, if required.
  • Carryout project deliverables’ reviews pertaining to new and ongoing major projects. Review the Plant’s modifications and improvement studies as required.
  • Assist in the process safety studies and assessments. Participate in the preparation of an action plan on the identified safety risks and follow-up on the close out of the recommendations. (Specific to all Sites, excluding Asab)

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical, Petroleum or Process Industrial Engineering or equivalent professional qualification.
  • 6 years of experience in process / design engineering in a large organization, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of gas extraction and processing in a Plant unit operations.
  • Strong working knowledge in preparing specifications for the processing equipment along with proficiency in PFD/P&ID development.
  • Working Knowledge on design engineering tools/software, such as HYSIS, HTRI, PI, LIMS, etc and plan monitoring tools such as CPIMS (Corporate Plant Information Management Systems).
  • Working knowledge in the application of process hazard analysis (HAZOP and HAZID).
  • Working knowledge in APC, AMS, CLPM, RTO and process control softwares.
  • Working knowledge in performing process-engineering calculations and establish performance-monitoring programs.
  • Technical ability in understanding the relevant codes and standards.
  • Experience in writing analytical reports.
  • Knowledge of HSE procedures and practices.
  • Planning, organising, co-ordinating, checking, examining, and recording.
