Job Description

The Cath Lab Technician plays a crucial role in the cardiovascular healthcare industry, facilitating complex and critical procedures within the cardiac catheterization laboratory. These professionals work closely with cardiologists to perform and assist in various diagnostic and interventional procedures like angioplasties, stent placements, and catheterizations. As a Cath Lab Technician, you will maintain and operate the high-tech equipment used during these procedures, ensuring precision and efficacy. Your role extends to patient care as you prepare, monitor, and provide aftercare for individuals undergoing cardiac procedures. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work dynamically within a healthcare team to improve patient outcomes.


Responsibilities

  • Assist cardiologists during catheterization and other heart-related procedures in the lab.
  • Prepare and maintain all instrumentation and equipment related to procedures.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and ensure they are stable before, during, and after procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explaining processes and providing reassurances as necessary.
  • Document procedures and patient records accurately, maintaining utmost confidentiality.
  • Ensure sterilization and maintenance of cath lab tools and the working environment.
  • Assist in the retrieval and analysis of imaging data for further diagnosis by healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate with healthcare team members to ensure seamless execution of procedures.
  • Assist with the setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of complex medical devices.
  • Maintain knowledge of current best practices and advancements in cath lab technologies.
  • Educate and guide patients on recovery processes following cath lab procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and be available for emergency procedures when required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certification in Cardiovascular Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a cardiac catheterization lab.
  • Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, pathology, and hemodynamics principles.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot high-tech medical imaging equipment effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and healthcare team collaboration.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including potential night and weekend shifts.
