Job Description

Primary school teachers are supervised by the head of the primary school. They are ultimately responsible to the principal As well as the requirements outlined in his/her individual appointment terms and conditions of service, each primary school teacher has the following specific responsibilities. In addition, he/she is expected to undertake any other reasonable task assigned by the head of the primary school or the principal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a personal and professional commitment to the schools core values, as expressed in its statement of philosophy maintaining professional ethical standards in all areas, particularly confidentiality
  • Assisting the head of the primary school and the PYP coordinator in effectively communicating to parents
  • To participate in the design, development, implementation and review of assessment and reporting system
  • Supporting the schools implementation of appropriate practice in the primary years of education
  • To participate in professional development and contribute to regular staff training/meetings
  • Work collaboratively with others to develop effective professional relationships
  • Communicate effectively with parents with regard to pupils’ achievements and well-being using school
  • Maintain ongoing data which gives evidence for report grading.
  • Insure that daily practice represents the high standards of research supported instruction
  • viewing students as thinkers with their own emerging theories
  • Building on what students bring to the learning experience in the way of prior understanding, knowledge and skills
  • using a variety of resources representing multiple perspectives
  • Empowering students to feel responsible and to take action
  • Devoting extra time to students who may be struggling academically or who may need further challenging
  • Ensuring that children with learning differences are provided with appropriate programmes
  • Delivering the curriculum as relevant to the age and subjects that you teach
  • To enhance the professional standing of the teaching body.
  • Being aware of student’s capabilities, their prior knowledge and planning teaching and differentiation as appropriate.

Requirements

Required qualifications/skills

The position of PYP teacher requires that the successful candidate has:

  • Teaching qualification
  • Relevant degree
  • Experience with the IB Primary Years Programme
  • proficiency in spoken English

Desired Qualifications/skills

  • Prior experience teaching the PYP, with a focus on early years education.
  • Has experience teaching students phonics and learning to read
  • Has received PYP-focused professional development
  • A high level of understanding of current research as to how children learn and possess the ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
  • Have the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload
