Job Purpose and Impact

The Tanker Vessel Operator is responsible for the end-to-end post-fixture execution of tanker voyages, from pre-fixture planning to voyage completion. This role is the primary point of contact for Owners, Charterers, Masters, Agents, and other stakeholders involved in the safe and efficient transportation of liquid cargoes.The Operator ensures full compliance with international regulations (e.g., MARPOL, SOLAS, OCIMF), manages cargo handling operations, monitors vessel performance and proactively addresses operational challenges. A strong safety mindset, attention to detail, and technical understanding of tanker operations are essential.

Key Accountabilities

  • Execute and monitor all aspects of tanker voyage operations, including loading, discharging, bunkering, and deviation handling.
  • Liaise with Masters, Charterers, Terminals, and Agents to ensure safe and efficient cargo operations.
  • Ensure compliance with charter party terms, vetting requirements, and international maritime regulations.
  • Monitor vessel performance, cargo quantities, demurrage exposure, and voyage profitability.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Chartering, Claims, Accounting, etc.) to ensure smooth voyage execution.
  • Maintain accurate voyage P&L and provide timely input for freight payments, port disbursements and demurrage calculations.
  • Support digitalization and process improvement initiatives within the operations team.
  • Share technical knowledge on tanker-specific systems (e.g., inert gas systems, cargo heating, tank cleaning) and port logistics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in tanker operations (onboard or ashore in agency, brokerage, or operations).
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Strong understanding of tanker vessel types (J19, Handies,MR1,MR2, LR,) and cargoes (vegetable oils,CPP, chemicals).
  • Familiarity with industry standards (OCIMF, CDI, ISGOTT,FOSFA).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Computers
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple voyages, and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sailing experience on tankers on senior ranks or shore-based experience in tanker chartering/operations.
  • Experience with voyage optimization tools (IMOS) is a plus
