Job Description

The role of a Computer Lab In-charge is integral in ensuring the smooth operation and management of a computer lab environment. The position entails a blend of technical expertise, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff. As the primary custodian of the lab, the Computer Lab In-charge is responsible for maintaining the hardware and software, providing technical assistance, and ensuring the security of the computer systems and data. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in IT systems management, be detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills to facilitate training and support for users. This role requires commitment to optimizing the computer lab environment for educational and research purposes, promoting best practices in technology use, and staying abreast of the latest technology trends and updates.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the computer lab and ensure a safe environment.
  • Manage and maintain computer equipment, including repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Install, update, and configure software applications and operating systems as needed.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to lab users promptly.
  • Enforce lab policies and procedures to maintain order and discipline among users.
  • Monitor inventory and ensure adequate supplies of necessary materials, such as printers and paper.
  • Ensure the security of computer systems, data, and personal information of lab users.
  • Coordinate lab schedules and usage to optimize resource availability and accessibility.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions or workshops to enhance user skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with IT management to implement network improvements and solutions.
  • Prepare reports on lab usage statistics and suggestions for improvements or upgrades.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies to recommend and integrate new tools into lab operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a computer lab environment or similar IT role is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and related software.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively assist and instruct lab users.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, configurations, and security practices is a plus.
