The primary role of a DBA is to ensure that data remains consistent across the database, is clearly defined, and can be accessed by authorized users efficiently and securely. Working across various industries, a DBA must understand the importance of data security diligently, implement backup and recovery strategies regularly, and ensure that databases run smoothly without performance degradation. With the growing reliance on big data, a DBA also needs to manage data across distributed systems and leverage cloud solutions effectively.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement database security measures to ensure data protection.
• Monitor database performance and optimize for maximum efficiency and uptime.
• Conduct data backup and recovery procedures to prevent data loss.
• Coordinate with IT and development teams to fulfill database requirements.
• Install, configure, and maintain database management systems and software.
• Troubleshoot database issues, identify problems, and implement strategic solutions.
• Develop database documentation, including data standards and definitions.
• Implement data access controls, privilege management, and user role assignment.
• Work with developers to tune database queries and scripts for optimal performance.
• Ensure all database systems meet business and performance requirements consistently.
• Regularly test and upgrade databases to the latest patches and versions available.
• Provide training and support to users and stakeholders on database functionalities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role of responsibility.
• In-depth knowledge of database structure principles and relational database management.
• Experience with database software Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL preferred.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools and data integration services is advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
• Effective communication skills with capacity to explain technical concepts clearly.
