About This Role
- Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Senior Manager.
- To lead Global Banking Operations Technology, with a focus on transforming Retail Core Operations and Consumer Operations. This role is central to modernizing claims management, digitizing customer interactions, and driving operational excellence across high-volume, customer-facing platforms
In this role, you will:
- Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
- Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
- Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
- Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
- Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
- Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
- Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
- Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
- Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
- Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
- Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
- Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 3+ years of management or leadership experience
Job Expectation:
- Lead large-scale transformation across Retail Core Operations, including modernization of check, cash, print, and servicing technologies.
- Develop and execute technology strategy, operating models, and roadmaps aligned with enterprise goals and business priorities. Ability to effectively drive and lead changes in an organization with Wells Fargos size, scale and complexity
- Application ownership and end to end global responsibility on apps that you will be owning.
- Build and retain high-performing global engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and delivery excellence.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards.
- Drive legacy modernization and cloud migration initiatives, with hands-on leadership in Java/.NET and cloud-native architectures.
- Champion GenAI and cognitive automation to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
- Ensure architectural alignment across infrastructure, application development, and data platforms.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and business leaders to transition to a product-centric delivery model.
- Oversee vendor relationships and global partnerships, ensuring roadmap alignment and delivery accountability.
- Promote agile and DevSecOps practices, enabling scalable and secure engineering workflows.
- Translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders and influence senior executive decision-making.
- Lead strategic planning across finance, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Domain Knowledge Expectations
- Deep understanding of Consumer Operations including payments, claims, and servicing workflows.
- Expertise in Retail Core Operations domains such as:
- Check modernization and automation (Preferable)
- Cash management and print and services
- Customer Identification Program digitization
- Operations data analytics and reporting aligned with enterprise data strategy
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks impacting consumer banking operations.
- Experience with high-volume transaction systems and customer-facing platforms supporting millions of cases annually.
Additional Required Qualifications
- PG or graduate degree in Computer Science or engineering
- software engineering experience 5+ years of technology leadership in consumer operations/Check Ops 5+ years of management experience in technology and Banking Domain experience. Strong planning (finance, resource, strategy, business), decision-making, and prioritization skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading global teams and mentoring managers
- Proven track record in application modernization and cloud transformation
- Strong background in API integration, messaging, and web services
- Familiarity with AI/ML and GenAI (LLM) capabilities
- Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience
- Strong communication skills across technical and executive levels
- Additional Strategic Skills
- Proven leadership in GenAI initiatives, including integration of large language models (LLMs) into enterprise applications
- Certification in Google/Azure Cloud, AWS Associate level / Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) developer, Container and Kubernetes experience.
- Experience in application modernization, transforming legacy systems into cloud-native architectures
- Strategic technology leadership with a focus on aligning engineering roadmaps to business outcomes and enterprise transformation goals
