Senior/Lead Engineer Virtual Validation , India – Automobile Business
Purpose of role
Carrying out & coordinating of all virtual validation activities for designed & developing products within the portfolio to achieve exceptional results through – personal effectiveness, partnering with others & building customer loyalty fulfilling their needs in an efficient & effective manner.
Key Responsibilities (Product & Process):
Planning & Execution of the Projects: 20%
- Create the approach note listing all technical details involved in performing the task;
- Effort estimation based on the scope of the project;
- Identify the competencies required for the execution of the task; and,
- Reviews Project Proposal (PP), Approach documents, Approval Request (AR) and Change Requests, Identify & assess project execution risks & dependencies.
Finite Element analysis execution Process: 40%
- Translate customer needs functional and design specifications into a mapable Finite element models for studies;
- To plan/prioritize and manage the day-to-day activities within Finite element analysis team in accordance with agreed quality, budget and within project deadlines;
- To plan & Coordinate the Finite element analysis activities between different Development offices/centers, according to project priorities;
- Work on demonstration projects to new customers & promoting the team technical competency to the Stakeholders;
- Support the team as subject matter expert for the FEA, SKF Product & application point of view;
- Work on developing the new competency inline with the future requirements of the different groups of SKF;
- Develops compliance plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying compliance engineering concepts and build a repository to collate SKF products & applications; and,
- To be responsible to keep and capitalize the developed knowledge.
Reviews & Reporting: 10%
- Responsible and accountable to ensure that all assigned personnel are coordinating their activities with other project participants and that the requirements of the SoW are being satisfied;
- Maintains engineering team accomplishments by reviewing open issues and action items coordinating actions, contributing information and analysis to team meetings and reports;
- To manage the project budget overview and timeliness of the product development team project;
- Ensure adherence to project close out activities – Project tracker updates & Report archiving accordingly to activity & process defined;
- Active participation in reviews and Technical Gate (TG) meetings with stakeholders and assuming the duties of the review meetings in the absence of Team Leader in such review meetings;
- Facilitate vertical and horizontal communication within the area of responsibility; and,
- Provide regular monthly reports on the performance of FEA activities on process adherence & key metrics as identified in Finite element analysis team.
Team Administration: 5%
- Support Team leader & Manager in staff hiring, IDPs, Capacity Planning & Competence development in area and aligns the Team.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives: 15%
- Initiate appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) when technical problem arises by Identifying root causes for the deviations;
- Prepare & maintain lessons learned document & evolve the best practices document for future work requests;
- To oversee, monitor and take appropriate action to optimize the effectiveness, reliability and accuracy of activities and deliverables to improve the working environment, processes and practices; and,
- Identify, plan & monitor improvement actions to improve productivity & Quality through effective audit program.
Innovation Culture: 10%
- Takes lead for the creation and implementation of new methodologies & approaches inspired disruptive technical innovations;
- Use various idea generation techniques (Brainstorming, Crowdsourcing, Gordon Techniques, etc) to generate and foster innovation culture;
- Responsible to transform stakeholders demands into innovative problem setup & finding the solutions to the Problems; and,
- To collaborate with cross functional teams to bring in innovative customer solution.
Candidate’s Profile:
- Masters or bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering stream
- 6-9 Years of relevant functional work experience

Key Skill & Knowledge:
- Should have Advance knowledge & understanding of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methodologies;
- Mentoring skills in ANSYS Design Modeler/SpaceClaim for geometric creation & modification;
- Demonstrate the in depth knowledge in advance topics of ANSYS Classic /ANSYS Workbench tools;
- Complete understanding of physics involved in advance topics of FEA like, Sub-modeling, topology optimization. Direct & sequential coupled filed analysis;
- Understanding of Fatigue Theory & Fracture mechanics with emphasis on LCF , HCF & LEFM Linear elastic fracture model, Material properties & parameters governing the models;
- Conversant with FE-SAFE or any commercial Fatigue tool, model setup and results investigation;
- Advanced Knowledge of ANSYS preprocessing / Post-processing Macros. Developing macros for repetitive types of tasks, APDL Snippets for ANSYS WORKBENCH;
- Hands-on experience in FE problems solving the using ABAQUS & Hyperworks;
- Demonstrate the Acumen & handling task independently in capturing the customer inputs, project data, & Engineering change request able to prepare the detailed Project Approach document & Final report;
- Knowledge of advance analysis techniques like failure analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) using commercial software’s like ANSYS, HyperStudy will be an added advantage; and,
- Knowledge of explicit analysis to simulate the high strain rates using Commercial tools such as Abaqus, MSC Nastran, Ls-Dyna, & Pro-mechanica will be an add advantage.
- Design, develop, and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline repetitive tasks within the CAE workflow (e.g., model creation, meshing, solver deck setup, post-processing, report generation).
- Utilize scripting languages such as Python (strongly preferred),ASYS Workbench API’s, APDL, TCL, MATLAB, or similar for efficient process automation.
- Integrate various CAE software tools through scripting and API utilization to create seamless workflows.
- Develop and maintain internal libraries of automated scripts and best practices for common simulation scenarios.
- Identify opportunities for digital transformation within the CAE domain, focusing on improving data management, accessibility, and collaboration.
- Explore and integrate new digital tools and platforms (e.g., PLM/PDM integration, simulation data management systems, cloud-based CAE solutions) to enhance our simulation capabilities.
- Promote a culture of digitalization and data-driven decision-making within the engineering team.
- Contribute to the development of custom applications or user interfaces to simplify complex CAE tasks for broader engineering use.
- Knowledge of Data Science or Machine Learning and AI concepts applied to CAE is an adding advantage.
