Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records to ensure accurate coding of treatments and procedures.
• Assign correct ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to each relevant case entry.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and insurance regulations.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify medical documentation and coding accuracy.
• Submit coded information to billing personnel for processing claims and insurance reimbursement.
• Ensure compliance with governmental healthcare regulations and prevent fraudulent activity.
• Perform regular audits of coding accuracy and rectify discrepancies promptly.
• Work within specified timeframes to meet deadlines for coding and billing submissions.
• Track and update changes in code sets and standards, adapting to policy revisions.
• Secure medical records confidentiality and take measures to keep patient data protected.
• Train and assist new staff and less experienced coders with best coding practices.
• Use electronic health record software to input and retrieve patient coding data.

Requirements

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or similar certification is required.
• At least two years of experience in medical coding is preferred.
• Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding is essential.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure.
• Experience with electronic health record systems and coding software.
