Job Description

As a Pastry Commis, you will be an integral part of a bustling kitchen environment, primarily assisting in the preparation and presentation of a wide range of pastries and desserts. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic and dedicated culinary novice looking to specialize in pastry arts. Responsibilities

  • Assist the head pastry chef in preparing a variety of pastries and desserts.
  • Measure and combine ingredients using precise techniques and tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry stations and storage areas.
  • Help in the decoration and presentation of baked goods to ensure aesthetic appeal.
  • Adhere to all culinary and sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  • Observe the proper baking times and temperatures to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experiment with new recipes and techniques under supervision of senior chefs.
  • Manage pantry supplies and notify the team when inventory is required.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and new pastry production techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Prepare pastries and baked goods for special events and banquets as directed.
  • Ensure quality control standards are maintained across all pastry items.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Culinary Arts or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a pastry assistant or commis is an advantage.
  • Passion for pastry arts, creativity, and an eye for detail are essential.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and under pressure.
  • Knowledge of baking techniques, flavors, and ingredients is required.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and recipes.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members efficiently.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items.
