Job Description

The Kitchen Steward is a vital part of the kitchen team, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the kitchen, and supporting the culinary team in ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety. Stewards play a key role in ensuring that all kitchen operations run smoothly by maintaining the supply of clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, as well as assisting in food preparation as needed. With excellent organizational skills and a keen eye for detail, the Kitchen Steward helps to keep the kitchen environment clean and efficient. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing excellent support and service behind the scenes.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, workstations, and dining utensils daily.
  • Ensure the disposal of trash and recyclables in accordance with regulations.
  • Operate dishwashing machines and hand-wash items as needed by the team.
  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks and duties.
  • Monitor inventory levels of kitchen supplies and report shortages to management.
  • Ensure the kitchen is organized and equipment is stored properly after use.
  • Comply with health and safety standards to maintain a clean work environment.
  • Perform scheduled deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and work surfaces.
  • Receive and store food deliveries promptly and in the correct areas.
  • Assist with setting up banquet facilities by cleaning and arranging furniture as needed.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient service during shifts.
  • Participate in training and development sessions to stay updated on best practices.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to support the kitchen team.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to food service.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects such as kitchen supplies.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and evenings.
