The Department of Economics at American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates invites applications for one or more regular and visiting positions. The regular position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, whereas visiting appointments at any rank will be considered. Candidates must have a PhD in Economics, preferably from North America, by the starting date (January or August 2025). Fields are open, with preference for those listed above. Senior applicants must have an established research record and strong teaching credentials. Junior applicants must have strong research agenda and teaching skills. All applicants must be able to work effectively with a diverse student body. For retention, faculty are expected to publish in reputable academic journals and excel in teaching. The university curricula, teaching standards and employment norms are aligned with the American model of higher education. The salary is competitive, tax free in the UAE and commensurate with experience. Seed research funds for junior faculty, free housing, paid utilities and other benefits are also provided.
The Department of Economics is part of the School of Business Administration (SBA) and consists of 16 regular faculty members who support two undergraduate degrees in economics, a master’s in economics and policy, other SBA programs, and the general education program.
