Job Description

A Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Officer is integral to maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety and environmental compliance. They ensure that the organization adheres strictly to all regulations related to health, safety, and the environment. The QHSE Officer is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that reduce risks and promote a safe and sustainable work environment. This role demands a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of industry-specific legal frameworks, and a proactive approach to safety management. By working closely with management and staff, the QHSE Officer fosters a culture of health and safety compliance that aligns with organizational goals and promotes employee well-being.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the organization's QHSE management systems and protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and preventive actions.
  • Provide training and guidance on safety procedures and best practices to employees.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on safety performance and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure all safety and environmental policies are up-to-date.
  • Lead risk assessment initiatives and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
  • Promote a safety culture through communications, workshops, and engagement activities.
  • Implement waste reduction and sustainable resource management programs across the organization.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and emergency procedures are fully operational and compliant.
  • Assist in the development of emergency response plans and participate in drills and exercises.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, laws, and regulations to maintain best practice standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a QHSE role within a relevant industry.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international safety and environmental regulations.
  • Possess certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent in QHSE management.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to conduct detailed investigations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and QHSE management software tools.
