We are seeking an experienced and driven Swimming Lead Coach to lead our swimming programme across Fortes Schools. This is a performance-focused role with a strong emphasis on managing competitive squads, developing swimmer potential, and ensuring excellence in both training and galas.
In addition to squad leadership, the successful candidate will also oversee the delivery and development of curriculum swimming, ensuring a high-quality, progressive aquatic experience from Early Years through to Secondary.
Working closely with the Director of Sport and Head of PE, the Swimming Lead Coach will shape the long-term strategy for swimming across both schools and ensure alignment between curriculum, squad training, and competitive success.

Significant experience coaching competitive squads within a school or club environment
Demonstrated success preparing swimmers for local and international galas
Proven ability to lead curriculum swimming across a full school age range
Expertise in stroke development, race preparation, starts, turns, and finishes
Strong planning and assessment skills for both curriculum and squad swimmers
Understanding of aquatic safety, strength and conditioning, and recovery protocols
Confident communicator with experience mentoring staff and working across departments
Up-to-date lifeguard and safeguarding certifications (desirable)
Passionate advocate for swimming with a commitment to growing the sport within a school setting
Professional Responsibilities
Plan, organise, and deliver high-quality squad training sessions including early morning, lunchtime, and after-school sessions
Lead and manage the delivery of curriculum swimming from FS1 to Secondary, in collaboration with PE staff
Select and coach competitive swim squads for galas and meets at local, national, and international levels, including DASSA and other recognised events
Fully commit to after-school and weekend galas and fixtures as part of the competitive calendar
Monitor and support swimmer development through training plans, performance tracking, and regular assessment
Participate in weekly sports department meetings and contribute to planning, programme development, and event coordination
Support administrative operations including gala logistics, transport, squad organisation, and risk assessments
Lead the marketing and promotion of swimming across Fortes schools, sharing achievements and building visibility through social media and school platforms
Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with coaching trends, aquatic safety, and safeguarding practices
Carry out additional tasks as directed by the Director of Sport in support of the school’s vision for excellence in sport
This is a key appointment within our sports programme. The successful candidate will play a central role in building a high-performance swimming culture while ensuring all students experience success, confidence, and progress in the water from their earliest years.
