Job Description

A Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in the construction industry, providing key services in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to the final figures. This role involves ensuring that the projects comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements while safeguarding cost efficiency and fiscal responsibility. The Senior Quantity Surveyor works closely with contractors and clients, balancing quality and value for money in project execution. This position demands strong analytical skills, effective negotiation abilities, and excellent communication to facilitate effective collaboration and ensure successful project outcomes.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage project estimates, budgets, and cost plans to ensure project viability.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and advise on procurement strategies and financial planning.
  • Analyze construction plans, and contracts and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Measure, value, and negotiate variations and changes to the project specifications.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to ensure compliance with project goals.
  • Lead contract negotiations and manage contractual relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on project cash flow, ensuring timely payment and financial accountability.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory compliance on all project activities.
  • Provide regular cost reports and analysis to stakeholders to inform decision-making.
  • Resolve disputes and handle claims with an aim to achieve fair and satisfactory outcomes.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships to ensure alignment with project objectives and budgets.
  • Keep up-to-date with new industry innovations, trends, and regulatory changes affecting projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets and financial projections efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, legislation, and industry practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills in project settings.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software, including estimation and project management tools.
  • Professional membership with relevant bodies (e.g., RICS) is highly desirable.
