Job Description

The Senior Estimator plays a critical role in the construction and engineering industries by providing accurate cost assessments for projects. Tasked with evaluating the scope of the project, the Senior Estimator works closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to gather pertinent information about materials, labor, timelines, and other factors that influence project costs. With the use of software and industry knowledge, they generate detailed estimates needed for bidding and budgeting purposes. This position requires a thorough understanding of construction methodologies, market trends, and project management principles. The Senior Estimator is also responsible for identifying potential risks and ensuring that pricing is competitive and in line with market standards, ultimately contributing to the successful financial execution of the company's projects.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze project plans and specifications to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders for project information gathering.
  • Review and assess supplier and subcontractor cost information for accuracy and relevance.
  • Utilize estimating software to generate detailed and accurate project cost assessments.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options for projects.
  • Provide detailed cost analysis to support project bids and budget preparations.
  • Monitor industry trends and pricing to maintain competitive and accurate estimates.
  • Prepare project risk assessments and develop pricing strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure estimates comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all estimates, adjustments, and project data.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather scope of work information.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior estimators on the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an estimator in construction or a related industry.
  • Proficient in using estimating software such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills for precise cost evaluation and estimation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse project teams.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and market conditions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with an emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness in estimates.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work under tight deadlines.
