Job Description

The Senior Estimator plays a crucial role within the construction and engineering industries, tasked with compiling comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for potential projects. This position requires a seasoned professional who is well-versed in both conceptual and detailed estimating and possesses deep industry knowledge to accurately predict and manage costs. The Senior Estimator collaborates with various teams to assess project proposals, analyze blueprints, evaluate supplier quotes, and ensure that all aspects of a project are cost-effective and align with the organization's financial objectives. This role serves as a bridge between clients, contractors, and financial executives, ensuring project estimates are not only accurate but also competitive. An excellent eye for detail, superior analytical skills, and the ability to foresee potential financial risks are paramount for success in this position. By effectively assessing risks, projecting budgets, and delivering precise estimates, the Senior Estimator plays a pivotal role in guiding project decisions and ultimately contributing to organizational success.


Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project cost estimates for various construction and engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers to assess and refine project specifications and requirements.
  • Analyze blueprints, technical documents, and other project-related information to determine costs.
  • Review and evaluate supplier and subcontractor proposals to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and increased project profitability.
  • Communicate estimated project costs and budgetary recommendations to senior management.
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare mitigation strategies for potential project challenges.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction materials, labor costs, and market trends.
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss and present estimate findings and justifications.
  • Prepare comprehensive bid packages and offer strategic advice for competitive bidding processes.
  • Use specialized software and technology to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of estimates.
  • Train and mentor junior estimators to build internal estimating capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating or a similar role in construction.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and market pricing trends.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail required.
  • Outstanding communication skills for effective interaction with clients and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines effectively.
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure advantageous project costs and supplier contracts.
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team of junior estimators is advantageous.
