Job Description

An Optical Technician plays a critical role in the vision care industry by working behind the scenes to support optometrists and ophthalmologists in the preparation and maintenance of optical instruments and devices. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, precision, and a strong understanding of optical equipment and technology. Optical Technicians are responsible for preparing lenses, assisting in eye examinations, and ensuring the functionality of various optical machines. Their expertise ensures that patients receive the highest quality vision care products and services. Working closely with other eye care professionals, they help maintain and improve patients' vision, contributing significantly to the overall patient care experience. An Optical Technician must also possess strong interpersonal skills, as they often interact with patients to ensure they are informed and comfortable with their optical solutions. The position demands a combination of technical knowledge, practical skill, and the ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare lenses according to prescriptions provided by licensed optometrists or ophthalmologists.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of optical laboratory equipment and machinery.
  • Assist in conducting vision tests and record patients' detailed eye measurements.
  • Handle the delivery and organization of optical supplies and inventory management.
  • Provide support in the assembly, fitting, and repair of eyewear products for patients.
  • Ensure all optical devices and tools are cleaned and sterilized for patient safety.
  • TRoubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to optical equipment and devices.
  • Collaborate with eye care professionals to improve service delivery and patient experience.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of lens production and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Educate patients on the proper care and use of their optical products and devices.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in optical technology and industry standards.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure precision and accuracy of optical products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional optical training is preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Optical Technician or similar role in healthcare.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to handle precision instruments accurately.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail for handling delicate optical materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and eye care teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a clinical setting.
