As a Materials Specialist, you will primarily work in a metallurgical laboratory and mechanical testing facility. As well as this, you will undertake desk-based assessments of equipment. You will use the findings from these works to solve client problems and guide them towards better equipment management.

As a [Manufacturing Specialist - Materials Management], you will be responsible for:

Inventory Optimization & Strategy


  • Lead initiatives to optimize inventory levels while maintaining high service levels across regions
  • Analyze inventory trends (DSOH, turns, aging) and develop actionable plans to improve performance
  • Drive reduction of slow-moving and excess inventory through structured programs
  • Monitor levels of safety stock, global and aging inventory, and works with regions and manufacturing plants to address accordingly
  • Provide updates to inventory projections and creates mitigation plans as needed
  • Work with Supply Planners to implement stocking strategies for local providers
  • Work with Regions to phase in new product inventory and develop plans for effectively managing replaced inventory


Cross-Functional Collaboration


  • Partner with Supply Planners, Demand Planners, and Regional Operations teams to align inventory strategies with business needs
  • Act as a key liaison between global and regional stakeholders to ensure consistent execution
  • Support S&OP / IBP processes with inventory insights and recommendations



  • Slow-Moving & Excess Inventory Management


    • Identify slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory and implement disposition strategies
    • Lead inventory rebalancing efforts across regions to maximize utilization
    • Develop and track KPIs related to aging inventory and excess reduction


    Utilization & Material Efficiency


    • Drive initiatives to improve inventory utilization across business units
    • Recommend redeployment, repair, or repurposing strategies to enhance value
    • Monitor and improve stocking policies based on demand variability and lead times


    Data Analytics & Reporting


    • Develop dashboards and reports to track inventory health and performance
    • Provide insights and recommendations to leadership
    • Leverage ERP and planning systems for data-driven decision making


    Continuous Improvement


    • Identify process gaps and implement improvements in inventory management practices
    • Support digital transformation initiatives and automation of inventory processes
    • Apply Lean / Six Sigma methodologies to drive efficiency

    To be successful in this role, you will have:


    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in inventory management, supply planning, or supply chain operations
    • Proven experience working with global/regional teams and cross-functional stakeholders
    • Strong background in managing slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory
    • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel / analytics tools
    • Certifications such as APICS CSCP or CPIM are a plus

    • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred
