A Kitchen Steward plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of a kitchen, overseeing cleanliness, and maintaining an organized and efficient workspace. They are responsible for managing dishwashing duties, cleaning kitchen equipment, and assisting with food preparation as needed. By keeping the kitchen clean and organized, they support chefs and other culinary staff in delivering high-quality meals to patrons. A Kitchen Steward needs to be detail-oriented, possess good communication skills, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Their role is fundamental to maintaining the standards of hygiene and customer satisfaction within a hospitality setting. Being proactive and having a strong work ethic are crucial in successfully executing the variety of tasks involved in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness by washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment diligently.
  • Ensure kitchen floors and surfaces are clean and sanitized regularly.
  • Organize and store kitchen items systematically for easy access and inventory.
  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation activities as required.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables following waste management guidelines.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to kitchen supervisors promptly.
  • Assist in unpacking and storing food deliveries in the appropriate locations.
  • Clean kitchen appliances such as ovens, grills, and fryers according to schedule.
  • Support kitchen staff by transferring necessary materials to various stations efficiently.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations while performing daily duties rigorously.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down kitchen workspaces for shifts or events.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure seamless and efficient kitchen operations.


Requirements

  • Prior experience in a kitchen or hospitality setting is preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail with a keen focus on cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with kitchen staff.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and perform repeated tasks.
  • Familiarity with proper handling and storage procedures for kitchen equipment.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.
