Job Description

The role of an HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Officer is vital for ensuring that organizations maintain a safe and healthy work environment while being environmentally responsible. This professional is responsible for implementing and managing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to minimize risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. HSE Officers are integral to creating training programs, conducting risk assessments, investigating accidents, and identifying potential hazards in the workplace. They work closely with management and staff to develop an organizational culture that prioritizes safety and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about promoting workplace safety and environmental sustainability.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
  • Organize and conduct training programs to educate employees about safety protocols.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international HSE regulations and standards.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of safety equipment and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and reports related to HSE activities.
  • Coordinate with management to develop strategies for improving workplace safety culture.
  • Advise on the latest HSE best practices, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Respond to emergency situations and coordinate the implementation of emergency procedures.
  • Engage with external agencies and auditors during safety audits and assessments.
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental awareness across all departments and levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • Certification in HSE management, such as NEBOSH or OSHA, is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience working as an HSE Officer or in a similar role for at least three years.
  • Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct detailed risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train and interact with staff.
  • Proficiency in using HSE management software and tools for reporting and documentation.
