Job Description

An ECHO Technician, also known as an Echocardiography Technician or Cardiac Sonographer, is a healthcare professional who specializes in using ultrasound equipment to create images of the heart and its chambers, valves, and vessels. The main objective of the ECHO Technician is to assist cardiologists by providing them with detailed images and information they need to diagnose heart conditions, plan treatments, and observe heart-related health problems. This role is critical in a clinical setting, as the accuracy of the images captured directly impacts patient care and treatment strategies. ECHO Technicians work in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, physician offices, and cardiac centers, often collaborating closely with doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure comprehensive cardiac healthcare. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who is adept at operating complex diagnostic equipment and possesses excellent interpersonal skills for patient interaction.


Responsibilities

  • Operate echocardiography equipment to conduct echo tests and obtain diagnostic images of the heart.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists to interpret test results and develop further examination plans.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during the echocardiogram procedure sessions.
  • Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal functionality and image quality.
  • Identify significant cardiac anomalies or irregularities and report findings to a supervising physician.
  • Document patient information accurately and update medical records according to hospital protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation and positioning of patients for echo tests, ensuring optimal imaging results.
  • Follow infection control and sterilization procedures to maintain a hygienic working environment.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs to improve diagnostic accuracy and technology usage.
  • Educate patients and their families about procedures to alleviate any concerns or discomfort.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in echocardiography technology and techniques.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to junior staff or trainees in the echocardiography department.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field is required.
  • Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is essential.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in echocardiography techniques or related roles is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with doctors and patient interaction.
  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology to ensure accurate diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in using medical diagnostic equipment and relevant echocardiography software.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in fast-paced clinical environments.
