The Challenge & The Opportunity

The digital asset ecosystem, a multi-trillion dollar market, is expanding at an unprecedented pace. This growth has outpaced the insurance industry’s ability to provide the sophisticated risk mitigation strategies necessary for institutional adoption. With only 1-2% of total crypto assets currently insured, a significant gap exists, driven by a lack of industry expertise, insufficient capacity, and products ill-suited for the unique, convergent risks of this space. Soter was established to solve this problem.

We are not simply filling a gap; we are architecting the future of risk management for the future of finance. Backed by industry leaders like Galaxy Digital, Further Ventures, and WebN Group, and regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), we are building a suite of digital asset native insurance solutions, from the worlds first hybrid USD-BTC denominated policies to specialized ETH denominated slashing coverage that fosters trust and enables growth.

This is an opportunity for a deeply curious and analytical individual to learn how to deconstruct unprecedented risks, analyse complex systems, and help build the foundational insurance products required for the maturation of the digital asset economy.

Your Role in Building the Future

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be instrumental in providing essential analytical support and driving our underwriting strategies. Your core responsibilities will encompass:

• Portfolio Sustainability: Help manage and optimize the underwriting portfolio for our specialized D&O, Professional Indemnity, Crime, and Slashing insurance products.
• Develop New Methodologies: Lead the evaluation and underwriting of complex, large-scale risks across the institutional digital asset sector, including for custodians, exchanges, hedge funds, and staking providers.
• Design & Innovate: Contribute to the design of new products to help reduce the protection gap and drive trust and safety for our clients.
• Shape the Market: Build and cultivate strategic relationships with the worlds leading brokers, clients, and technical partners, establishing Soter as the markets leading voice on digital asset risk.
• Risk Deconstruction: Assisting in the evaluation of new and renewal business by analyzing the multifaceted risks of digital asset clients, including custodians, exchanges, staking providers, as well as working with some of the largest financial institutions to create products to mitigate their digital asset transition.
• Conduct Deep Technical Diligence: Move beyond financial statements to conduct forward-looking risk assessments based on the quality of clients technical stacks, custody architecture, governance structures, and compliance cultures.
• Market Intelligence: Maintaining and analysing data in our underwriting systems to help identify emerging risk trends across DeFi, Layer-2 solutions, and institutional custody.
• Data & Documentation: Preparing and reviewing policy documentation for our specialised products, including D&O, Professional Indemnity, Crime, and Staking/Slashing coverage. You will ensure the accuracy of our innovative hybrid-currency policies that blend USD, BTC, and ETH denominations.
• Process Integrity: Monitoring submission pipelines and liaising with our global network of brokers and partners to ensure the timely gathering of due diligence, from balance sheets, smart contract audits to custody architecture details.
• Solution Support: Providing administrative and analytical support for the creation of quotes, proposals, and risk assessments that address the interconnected perils of the digital asset ecosystem.
  
  

• Underwriting Leadership: A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in Financial Lines (D&O, E&O, Crime) or an analogous industry type, with a demonstrated ability to pivot that expertise to the fintech, digital asset space or other innovative space.
• Regulatory Fluency: Experience with respected regulatory frameworks like the BMA (Bermuda Monetary Authority) is a significant asset. Professional designations (CPCU, RPLU, etc.) are preferred. Experience with various digital asset regulatory bodies (e.g., VARA) is also beneficial.
• Intellectual curiosity: A demonstrable passion for understanding the complexities of the digital asset ecosystem. Advanced certifications and independent research relating to converging risk in the digital asset space is highly desired.
• Systems Thinker: A multi-product, creative problem-solving mentality with the ability to architect bespoke, holistic solutions for unprecedented perils. You see the interconnectedness of risks where others see silos.
• Strategic Communication: Excellent leadership and communication skills, including the technical literacy to hold your own in discussions with Clients, CTOs, auditors, and regulators.
• High Bar of Excellence: A high degree of attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential. The ability to program and leverage AI for increased efficiency is also beneficial.
