Research Associate In The Division Of Science Mathematics - Dr Tej Eddine Ghoul

The Nonlinear PDE and Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in the Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research associate to work on the mathematical mechanisms underlying singularity formation in nonlinear fluid models.

The successful applicant will drive a cutting-edge project focused on the formation and stability of self-similar blow-up solutions in nonlinear evolution equations arising in fluid dynamics and related systems. Recent work in our group has highlighted the role of self-similarity in the development of singularities in semilinear parabolic equations with gradient structure. Building on this, the candidate will investigate both linear and nonlinear stability of such profiles using a combination of analytical and spectral techniques. Depending on expertise, there may also be opportunities to contribute to numerical simulations and formal asymptotic analysis.

The Project Will Involve Tools From

• Spectral theory and functional analysis,
• Dynamical systems and modulation methods,
• Nonlinear PDE theory (blow-up, self-similarity, asymptotic analysis),
• Applications to fluid models such as Navier–Stokes, Keller–Segel systems, and semilinear heat equations.
  
  

The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment that includes faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students engaged in applied mathematics, analysis, and theoretical physics.

Applicants must have a PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Strong background in nonlinear partial differential equations is required. Familiarity with blow-up phenomena, stability analysis, or spectral methods will be considered a plus.
