Job Description

A Radiographer, also known as a Radiologic Technologist or MRI Technologist, plays a pivotal role in the healthcare industry by using medical imaging equipment to assist in diagnosing patient conditions. This professional works closely with radiologists and other healthcare team members to produce diagnostic images of patients’ body parts, aiding accurate diagnosis and treatment plans. Radiographers are responsible for maintaining imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety through minimal exposure to radiation, and providing support and care to patients during procedures. They must have an excellent eye for detail, good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, and a sound understanding of human anatomy and medical imaging techniques.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for radiological examinations by explaining procedures clearly and addressing concerns.
  • Position patients accurately to ensure the best quality diagnostic imaging outcomes.
  • Operate and maintain sophisticated imaging equipment, adhering to strict healthcare guidelines.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, or mammograms.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards to protect patients and staff from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Work collaboratively with radiologists to review images and determine if additional action is required.
  • Complete and maintain accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality and security of data.
  • Continuously monitor equipment functionality and report any discrepancies or malfunctions promptly.
  • Stay updated on advancements in radiological technology through continuous education and training.
  • Guide and mentor junior radiographers and new staff in imaging protocols and procedures.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure reliability and safety of radiological equipment.
  • Provide compassionate care, ensuring the comfort and anxiety reduction of patients during scans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology, Radiography, or a closely related field.
  • Valid certification and license to practice radiography.
  • Proficiency in operating various imaging equipment such as MRI and CT scanners.
  • Excellent understanding of human anatomy, imaging techniques, and radiological safety measures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot imaging equipment issues.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and team members.
  • Commitment to complying with healthcare regulations and ethical standards in patient care.
