A Nursery Nanny plays a critical role in providing high-quality care and support for children aged months to 2 years. The Nursery Nanny works directly under the supervision of the teaching assistant reports to the Nursery Principal, ensuring that each Childs personal, emotional, and developmenneeds are met through daily interactions, nurturing care, and structured play activities.
Responsibilities
1. Childcare and Supervision:
Assist in creating a safe, stimulating, and caring environment for children.
Meet childrens personal needs, including nappy changes, potty training, and ensuring proper
hygiene (washing hands, wiping faces).
Help ensure each childs well-being by providing close supervision during all activities, including
meal and nap times.
Follow daily routines and encourage healthy habits in feeding, toileting, and sleeping.
2. Supporting Teaching Assistants:
Assist teaching assistants in implementing intellectual and physical activities in line with lesson
plans.
Provide individual attention to children, particularly in assisting with specific tasks or play.
Maintain an organized and tidy classroom; participate in daily setup and cleanup.
Prepare snacks, lunch, and other meals as required, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards
are met.
3. Health, Safety, and Hygiene:
Ensure the highest level of safety and hygiene in line with the nurserys health and safety
policies.
Clean and sanitize toys, play equipment, and classroom surfaces regularly.
Report any hazards or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
Record the frequency of diaper changes and other hygiene-related tasks.
4. Parent Communication and Support:
Maintain open communication with parents, updating them on their childs progress, behavior,
and personal needs (e.g., diaper supply, feeding patterns).
Be approachable and supportive in addressing parental concerns and feedback.
5. Emotional and Social Development:
Foster a positive and nurturing environment to help children develop emotionally, socially,
and cognitively.
Encourage good behavior, model positive values, and help children develop self-care skills.
Monitor and address behavioral issues, guiding children toward responsible, empathetic
interactions with others.
6. Team Collaboration and Professional Development:
Work effectively as part of the nursery team, contributing to a harmonious work environment.
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training initiatives to continuously improve
skills and knowledge.
Maintain a positive attitude toward continuous professional development and contribute ideas
to improve classroom dynamics.
4. Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Essential:
High school certificate with an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) training program of
no less than 100 hours or a certified vocational certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education
(Level II).
Strong verbal and listening communication skills in English.
Proven interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and
colleagues.
Desirable:
Knowledge of early childhood development and education theories.
Familiarity with local cultural practices and an understanding of how to incorporate these into
daily activities.
Understanding of health and safety regulations for childcare.
Experience:
Previous experience in a nursery or similar setting is required. The ideal candidate will be
confident, creative, and diplomatic, with the ability to manage the personal care and
development needs of young children effectively.
