Job Description

The role of Category Manager - Sports is a pivotal position in the retail and e-commerce industries, playing a strategic role in managing the sports category’s overall performance. As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for analyzing market trends, selecting new product lines, optimizing product assortments, establishing pricing strategies, and building strong relationships with suppliers. Successful candidates will have extensive knowledge of sports products and the sporting goods industry, as well as a keen eye for identifying consumer needs. You will utilize your leadership skills to guide a team towards achieving sales targets and expanding market presence. Your expertise in negotiation and strategic planning will be crucial for maximizing profit and ensuring sustainable growth in market share for the sports category.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement category strategies to meet revenue and profit targets.
  • Analyze consumer buying patterns and predict future sports product trends.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock and minimize overstock situations.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to create effective promotional campaigns.
  • Conduct regular competitor analysis to stay ahead in the sports market dynamics.
  • Coordinate with the supply chain team for efficient distribution processes.
  • Track and report on category performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Plan and execute new product launches within the sports category.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Category Manager, preferably within the sports industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and trends.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Proficiency in using data management tools and business intelligence software.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to present insights clearly.
