Knowledge And Skills

  • Expanding knowledge of Lubrizol chemistry, business units, and commercial activities
  • Expanding depth of knowledge in chemical control laws/regulations and other regulatory topics, including those outside core responsibility
  • Thorough knowledge of Lubrizol information systems and tools and other internal/external systems and databases as required to be a productive and effective contributor
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and propose solutions
  • Advances problems toward resolution despite ambiguity or uncertainty; escalates responsibly and to the right level
  • Effectively communicates to global team members and senior leaders within PSCD.
  • Effectively presents technical and regulatory information and adjusts communication practices for both internal and external audiences as necessary.
  • Demonstrates a high level of adaptability in ambiguous environments, with strong prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Demonstrates solid client management skills. Communicates issues with supervisor, develops and may lead communication plans (as needed).

Accountability/Scope Of Role

  • Demonstrates strong understanding of Quality Control Orders (QCOs), BIS certification processes, and relevant industry standards, with proven proficiency in data analysis, trend identification, and impact assessment of QCOs on business operations.
  • Responsible for understanding & interpreting the requirements of several national and/or international regulatory program(s), transportation law(s), chemical compliance, and/or hazard communication regulation(s).
  • Possesses hands-on experience in managing compliance and certification projects, ensuring timely execution and alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams such as R&D, Quality, Procurement, Trade Compliance, and others to build and enhance in-house BIS-QCO capabilities.
  • Develops and communicates credible technical positions and decisions, providing clear guidance to PSCD leadership and relevant stakeholders across functions.
  • Assigned to projects that have broader scope and/or are more complex in nature. Problems involve causes which are not obvious but where precedents may exist. Sought to be a participant in inter-disciplinary projects as a contributor or key contributor.
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvements for achieving annual performance goals and improving efficiency/effectiveness of team
  • Recognizes issues that indicates a potential problem in a current process and/or regulatory compliance program.
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance problem resolution despite ambiguity or uncertainty, escalating issues responsibly and to appropriate levels. Skilled in liaising effectively with company leadership, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely resolution.
  • Monitors regulatory updates, BIS-QCO communications, databases, and trade literature to identify issues relevant to business. Capable of analyzing potential impacts and communicating findings either to the supervisor or directly/indirectly to business units, ensuring timely awareness and response.
  • May participate in trade association(s) and/or relevant professional organization(s); supports activity towards common goals(s) & initiatives. Supports efforts to leverage BIS and QCO compliance as a strategic tool to drive competitive advantage in the market.
  • Interacts with regulatory authorities directly and / or through use of consultants to streamline approvals, answer questions, and resolve issues.

  • Area of impact expands across functional areas and business processes
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead a team of other regulatory professionals to deliver results by influencing without authority, building trust, and developing constructive and effective relationships with peers
  • Provides daily communication and support to global colleagues regarding technical issues and resources (including tools and technical skills)

Professional Experience

  • Relevant BSc., M.Sc. or equivalent stream of science or Engineering.
  • Typically 5 – 20+ years relevant Industry experience, preferably in specialty chemicals, Petro-chemicals or similar sectors, with a strong background in BIS and QCO compliance.
