Job Description

As a Safety Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all workplace activities are conducted in compliance with occupational safety and health guidelines. You will be tasked with the primary responsibility of creating and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Your role is critical in evaluating the levels of risk in the work environment and implementing risk management controls to minimize hazards. By conducting rigorous assessments and inspections, you'll ensure preventative measures are in place. Your expertise will also contribute to training staff about safety procedures and promote a safety-first culture that will safeguard employee well-being, reduce injuries, and ensure uninterrupted productivity.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures at the workplace.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to maintain compliance with regulations.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement risk control measures to prevent accidents.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on safety standards and practices.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and systems are in proper working condition.
  • Monitor workplace conditions and practices to ensure continuous risk assessment and improvements.
  • Coordinate with management to promote a culture of safety-first across the organization.
  • Prepare reports detailing inspection findings and propose risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with external agencies for audits and compliance assessments.
  • Stay updated with industry safety regulations and ensure organization-wide adherence.
  • Develop emergency response plans and oversee their implementation and rehearsals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field required.
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role within the industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of health, safety legislation, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and frontline observational skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations and write detailed reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to train and guide employees.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR and any additional safety certifications preferred.
