Job Description

The Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of kitchen activities. They assist cooks and chefs with basic food preparation tasks and ensure the kitchen environment is clean and organized. The Kitchen Helper is responsible for cleaning dishes, organizing tools and ingredients, and adhering to safety and hygiene standards. This position requires a proactive and efficient worker who can handle the fast-paced environment typical in food service settings. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, good communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. This job offers the chance to be a part of a team that values quality and consistency in food production.


Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping and peeling.
  • Ensure that cooking utensils and equipment are cleaned and ready for use.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas including floors, walls, and workstations.
  • Organize and store food supplies appropriately to maintain freshness and quality.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen tools promptly.
  • Dispose of waste and expired products following kitchen waste management protocols.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and inform the supervisor of any shortages.
  • Help maintain food safety and security standards, following all regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the unpacking and storing of deliveries and supplies efficiently.
  • Engage positively with team members and contribute to a harmonious kitchen environment.
  • Adapt to various duties and shifts as required to meet business demands.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently under supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in performing kitchen duties.
  • Proficient in basic food safety standards and health guidelines practices.
  • Excellent time management skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
