Job Description

A QA/QC Welding Inspector is a critical member of the quality assurance and quality control team responsible for ensuring that all welding activities adhere to established standards and specifications. This role involves thorough inspections and evaluations of welding processes and outputs to prevent defects and ensure safety and reliability in finished products. The inspector plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of welded structures, commonly used in industries such as construction, oil and gas, aerospace, and manufacturing. As a QA/QC Welding Inspector, you will collaborate with other professionals, such as engineers and project managers, to provide timely and accurate assessments of weld quality, develop inspection strategies, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections to ensure all welding activities meet quality standards.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and engineering drawings for welding requirements.
  • Perform welding tests and inspections of welds and materials prior to welding operations.
  • Monitor and verify that welding processes comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and suggest corrective actions if needed.
  • Ensure all welding equipment is calibrated and functioning in accordance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to address and resolve welding quality issues promptly.
  • Conduct audits of welding procedures and quality assurance programs regularly.
  • Train and mentor junior inspectors and welding personnel on quality standards.
  • Assist in developing inspection plans tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Evaluate and validate third-party or subcontractor welding operations for compliance.
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss welding quality control measures and outcomes.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree is preferred.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification is mandatory.
  • At least three years of experience in welding inspection or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, procedures, codes, and standards (AWS, ASME).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify welding defects and non-conformities.
  • Proficient in using inspection tools and equipment to verify weld quality.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
