Job Description

A Dental Surgeon, also known as an Oral Surgeon, specializes in surgeries related to the mouth, jaw, and face. They diagnose and treat conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial area and offer a range of surgical procedures, including tooth extractions, corrective surgeries for jaw alignment, and treatment of traumatic facial injuries. The Dental Surgeon ensures patients are in optimal oral health and provides expert care tailored to each individual's needs. Working closely with other dental and health professionals, they play a crucial role in the management and restoration of oral functions. A strong emphasis is placed on patient care, education, and surgical excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical assessments to understand patient needs and oral complexities.
  • Perform complex tooth extractions and other oral or maxillofacial surgeries.
  • Diagnose issues such as impacted teeth, jaw adequacy, or other anomalies.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on individual patient requirements.
  • Collaborate with orthodontists and other dental professionals for comprehensive care.
  • Educate patients about oral health and post-operative care instructions effectively.
  • Administer anesthesia and manage pain during and after surgical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and case histories consistently.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations and maintain the highest sanitary standards.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments and techniques in oral surgery.
  • Supervise and mentor junior surgeons and dental staff as required.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and emergencies in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree.
  • Valid state license to practice dentistry and perform oral surgery required.
  • Completion of an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program mandatory.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and a steady hand for precise surgeries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of dental surgical tools, techniques, and best practices.
  • Commitment to continuing education to stay updated on oral surgery advancements.
