Job Description

The role of a Commis Chef is pivotal in the kitchen hierarchy as it marks the beginning of one's culinary journey. As a Commis Chef, you are expected to perform multiple tasks, usually assigned by the Head Chef or any senior member from the kitchen brigade. This position requires a keen eagerness to learn, develop skills, and grasp the dynamic nature of kitchen operations. You will assist in food preparation, support chefs in cooking processes, and ensure cleanliness and organization within kitchen spaces, all while adhering to health and safety standards. Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs in the preparation and cooking of food dishes as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the kitchen.
  • Follow recipe specifications and presentation standards for all dishes served.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is used correctly and cleaned regularly.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Assist in the inspection and storage of delivered kitchen supplies and ingredients.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge.
  • Monitor stock levels and report any discrepancies to senior chefs promptly.
  • Adhere to food hygiene and safety standards to prevent contamination.
  • Assist in portion control and assure cost-efficient use of kitchen resources.
  • Carry out preparations for various meal services, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Handle unexpected situations calmly while maintaining quality and standards.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A culinary degree or vocational training in cooking is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Strong passion for food preparation and eagerness to learn new methods.
  • Excellent team collaboration skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to food preparation.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts.
