Job Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deploy and configure Microsoft Purview to establish end-to-end data governance, including data cataloging, classification, lineage, and access control across structured and unstructured clinical and healthcare datasets.
  • Define and implement metadata management frameworks and data stewardship models aligned with HIPAA, GDPR, and internal data privacy, security, AI, and governance policies.
  • Integrate Purview with Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and various production systems for metadata harvesting, lineage tracking, data classification, and compliance auditing.
  • Partner with clinical researchers, data scientists, and business analysts to ensure governed access to trusted datasets and reproducible metrics.
  • Support business metric definitions and ontology mapping, enabling accurate reporting and semantic clarity across data collection applications and operational dashboards.
  • Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Compliance teams to automate data classification, retention, and access monitoring for sensitive data.
  • Define and manage data domains, glossaries, and policies using by deploying business-friendly UI and APIs.
  • Develop training, documentation, and onboarding processes for new users of Microsoft Purview and related governance tools.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of the data governance infrastructure; troubleshoot integration issues.
  • Work with project managers and stakeholders to plan and define how data governance technology will be delivered and measured to achieve business results.
  • Instruct and supervise subordinate engineers and analysts that contribute to data governance technology delivery.

Required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in enterprise data governance, data modeling, or data engineering roles that emphasize analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview and/or Unity Catalog deployment and configuration, including policy and security settings and a commitment to continuous development of these skills.
  • Familiarity with privacy-enhancing technologies, data masking, and sensitive data classification strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with data scientists and analytics teams on data quality and reproducibility.

Preferred

  • Strong understanding of healthcare data workflows and compliance requirements (HIPAA, GDPR, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Proficiency in Azure Data Services (e.g., ADF, Synapse, Blob Storage), Databricks, and data cataloging best practices.
  • Experience with FHIR, OMOP, CDISC, and other healthcare data standards.
  • Experience empowering data governance, data architecture, and/or data science roles (e.g. data stewards, data custodians, data architects, computational scientists, etc.).
  • Knowledge of data mesh or domain-oriented data architecture principles.
  • Experience working in regulated environments such as life sciences, pharma, or clinical trials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications; Solid written and oral presentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to define business use cases and measure / communicate proposed project benefits

Summary
